People whose professions, cultures and lives rarely intersect explore one theme in a place that becomes part of the inquiry.
The Institute’s underlying premise is that human beings can become catalysts for one another’s discoveries.
Entrepreneurs, scientists, educators, cultural practitioners, artists, writers, designers, historians, futurists and leaders.
Intellectually curious individuals whose interests and experiences cross disciplines and cultures, are willing to see the world through a different lens.
“You know who you are when you know where you are.”
Where you are and where you came from shape what you see. Place influences how people live, move, work, create and understand their surroundings.
Who are you when you set aside the roles you inhabit?
The history, experience, relationships, values, and places we carry shape our identity. It influences how each of us encounters the world.
What do you consider normal or acceptable?
Culture lives in language, customs, rituals, music, food, behavior, values, and assumptions. Encountering another culture broadens our perspective on alternative ways to live life.
What does the past reveal about the present?
Man writes history. Every place and person carries layers of what they deem to be true. History gives context to what needs changing to understand the present and future.
The depth of beauty depends on the value people assign to it.
What people consider worthy of attention, care, protection, and aspiration—now and for the future—defines it.
Vence, on the Côte d’Azur, offers a living landscape of medieval architecture, history, art, music, food, and everyday life. These become material for inquiry. What participants encounter in the town and region opens new ways to examine the theme.
The inaugural gathering takes place in Vence, France, October 10–13, 2027. Twelve participants will share four days of conversation, individual, and group reflection, cultural encounters, meals, and time to experience the region.
Beyond its residential gatherings, The Human Atlas Institute is a media house developing books, videos, and other formats that explore human experience through the lenses of the five pillars.
Its long-term vision includes a holographic archive of human perspectives, bringing together the voices, experiences, and insights of the people who’ve participated in HAI gatherings, across cultures, disciplines, and generations.
Elise Krentzel is an entrepreneur, author, and cultural journalist whose career has unfolded across six countries and creative disciplines. Her work in international media, publishing, and writing narrative nonfiction has explored the relationship between place, identity, and human experience.
The Human Atlas Institute grew out of her Human Atlas books, bringing decades of cross-cultural experience and inquiry into a shared intellectual setting.
